Meeting 2014/08/02

What

Civic Tech, Open Data and Python
by Greg Kempe (@longhotsummer)

Using Python, open data and just a touch of machine learning to help civic organisations help themselves. In this talk I describe two applications we built for for Media Monitoring Africa. Dexter is a processing platform for analysing articles in the media and was used to build MMA’s report of the 2014 National Elections. Wazimap is a tool for journalists (and everyone else) to understand their country, province, municipality and ward through visualising data from the 2011 census.
